Kitchen so far

The kitchen is shaping up!

Here's the long wall behind the eat-in area on the day we started in February 2010.

Here's what it looks like now.
The backsplash behind the cooktop was a bumpy mess after we scraped off all the wallpaper.

Beadboard wallpaper was the simplest way to deal with it.  Hanging rails & spice rack are from Ikea.
This is the added-on part of the kitchen.  It has ridiculously tall wall cabinets that are cheap affordable builder's grade.  We took them off and painted them white, and then rehung them.

I still want to paint those minty countertops, but that's a project for another day.

We had this big expanse of floor,

So we got this island from Ikea, and I painted it white to match the kitchen.

It's a perfect fit.  We'll hang a pot rack above it sometime soon.  My pots and pans hung from a rack at the old house for 20 years, and I can't stop reaching over my head for the saucepans.  I just hate rooting around for them in the cabinets here.  So sometime soon--pot rack.

We're slowly unpacking and putting away all of the accumulated junk keepsakes from the other house.  The rooms were just starting to look nice, and now every one has seven boxes and plastic bins the size of dog coffins blocking the floors and stacked in the corners.  Every room is probably hours of work to unpack and set up.  So if you're wondering why I haven't shown you any other rooms, that's why--they're still a mess, even though it's been 2 months since we moved in.

If I sound like I'm complaining, I'm not.  I'm procrastinating.   There IS a big difference.

  2. Wow- great job. The greenish countertops don't look bad now that everything else is spruced up.
